first it was braces, now i'm gg for lasik next week.
yes, next week. just went for an appt check up and the girl was trying to get me to schedule for monday or something. but no lah, i'm gg on saturday. nervous.
the procedure will take all of a few minutes, but it sounds scary enough.
first the doc will put some numbing eyedrop to prevent blinking, then he'll place a metal thing on my eyeball and create a suction to hold my pupil in place, then, this thing called a 'microkeratome' which is really just a blade will slice off the lid of the cornea, not all the way, but leaving a hinge, and all i gotta do is stare at a red light and zap, 3-5 seconds later my cornea is reshaped and one eye is done, they'll fold the cornea lid back in place and smooth it out.
the good thing is that it's really fast, but the bad is that i'll have to linger ard the clinic abt 2.5hrs in total, getting tests done, preparing. already spent 4hrs there yesterday being shuffled back and forth the evaluation procedure. right after the surgery, i have to go home, but the next day i can come out! with sunglasses of course, to cut out the glare.
i think the clinic is quite different than usual. the young girls are more like sales people than 'receptionists' or 'clinic assistants'. you'll prob have heard of the place.. The Lasik Surgery Clinic at paragon. they hold talks and get the crowd to go through a free suitability test, then if you're still interested, pay $107 for a pre-evaluation test and get a doc's consultation. next time you're there (which can be the same day or the next, if the doc is free) it'll be surgery day. they have 3 docs and you get to pick which one you wanna engage. not gonna tell you who i asked for, if you're my friend and you wanna know, call me. they are all experienced eye surgeons and are highly qualified, but the clinic is quite new and i guess so is the current technology.
anyway, it costs $2400 this month, and will revert to $2750. SIA stewardesses get a good rate. this is actually cheap, i guess their purpose is to get bulk customers instead of charging high prices and fewer visits. they earn from your pre-eval money and try to convert you to do the surgery. theres a briefing where they'll explain the difference of short sighted, long sighted, astig, and 'lao hua'. ask me and i'll tell you.
wow, i sound like a free advert for them..anyway they are nice people and even the pretty ceo serves you, when i was converting to the pre-eval and will prob do the surgery. the doc is friendly but aloof at the same time. weird that he's prob a busy and tired person but has to go through the customary short consultation with the patient. i guess that's where we feel our money's worth. i didnt bother too much though. all i new was 'shut up, pay up, and they've explained the same thing to thousands before, they'll do whats within their power to make sure nothings wrong and i should be in safe hands' no point asking about risks and all, what i wanted to know is the do's and dont's.
haiya if you wanna know more or anything else, ask me lah.
